How and why did the symbols you identify appear in your surroundings? When I first came to this place, this was the first thing I noticed; Huge houses with Greek letters on them. They probably appeared in the 70-these when they started to build out the school area and the college community grew. The American college culture has a tradition with so-called “fraternities” and “sororities”, which stands for “brotherhoods” and “sisterhoods”. The symbols/buildings were built for these groups.

What do these symbols mean to you today? Are they understandable for someone outside of your own culture? When these houses start to appear, then you will know that you have entered the campus area.   What do you think about sharing symbolic meanings of landscape? I think they are pretty to look at, although I think the size of them makes the area a little “cold” and un-welcoming for strangers. You somewhat feel like you always are close to step on someone else’s property.
