This graphic shows how I personally see the connection between landscape and democracy, not as two separate things but as something deeply tied to how we live, belong, and grow in a place. To me, a democratic landscape is more than just spaces. It is a living, breathing place that brings together three essential elements: community, environment, and culture. In our own words, “Ang demokratikong paisahe ay nagbubuklod sa komunidad, kapaligiran, at kulturang meron ang isang lugar.” Community means people having a voice, feeling included, and shaping the places they live in. Environment means caring for the land, the trees, rivers, and air, and allowing both people and nature to thrive. Culture means honoring the identity, stories, and traditions of a place. When these three come together and are valued equally, the space becomes truly democratic. It is not just about how a place looks. It is about unity, understanding, and respect for who we are as people and as part of the natural world.
