Rationale: Why have you chosen this case for the landscape and democracy seminar?
- Why is this case relevant?
- Destruction of urban green space
Urban green space standard per capita in Mashhad is 25 square meters, but now does not exceed
more than 9 square meters. In such circumstances, the Municipality of district 9 had removed trees
in many parts of the area .The question is “Why”?
Removment of Cypress trees and replacing them with concert pavement and flowers. This happens
while cutting each Cyprus tree costs around 20 Euros .
Mashhad has 3 million residences, it has the lack of green space. On the other hand increasing heat
islands, reduced groundwater levels, and the most important air pollution which causes heart
disease and lung cancer is common these days.
Buxus in large part been removed from the boulevards. The best features such as soil acceptance for
tree respiratory, groundwater recharging, absorbance of rainwater will be under red blocks of
housing.
In near future habitats of Mashhad will face flood on streets, which makes this subject as most important study in Mashhad
