'' | ''My partner and I started communicating via E-Mail and then switched to Telegram to have an easier and more informal chat. First we introduced ourselves and exchanged some information and stories about our study course and what else is going on in our life. Then we split up the readings and it took a while until we read everything. We talked a lot about the different methods from the texts. We realized quickly the importance to involve the community for a project. The community knows all the issues, how the places is used and secret stories about the places. One of my favorite method is called "cellphone diaries". I think its very useful because today most of the people have their own mobile phone in the pocket. With the phone in the pocket they always can spontaneously make a small clip or take some photos. Another thing i really enjoyed about our conversation was that we did not just talk about the readings we also reflected them on our previous studies and how we already got connected with the community in those previous projects. Phase A: Mapping Your Community
Welcome to Your Community and Their Landscape
-
Location: Southern Nürtingen
-
Special characteristics: The Steinach river is the border between industrial and residential area. Industrial workers use the green space along the river to take a break. Residents use the unused green spaces as a garden. Some private gardens and properties are located next to the river.
Groups of Actors and Stakeholders in Your Community

-
The groups / sub-communities identified were: students, residents, farmers, sport groups, institutions, children, elderly, tourists, youth
-
For the needs and aspirations:'Some residents stated:'"The Steinach could be made tangible again", "A flat bank so that we can play in the brook", "The Steinach always had something exciting for me as a child and adolescent", "It used to be very different, but everything was broken down":

For the power mapping, the main target is "Bringing social and natural life to the Steinach river"
-
Challenges: -Not enough public space along the river -Accessibility to the river by the local community -Accessibility of the river by the industrial workers
-
Primary idea for solution: -Develop river bank on the public road side for a common use -Beautify the private property river bank, as a way of visual connection between the public and private areas -Integrate communities in a public area for the benefit of everyone

Reflection and Methods used in mapping
-
Reflection on theory 'Things that went well':We found the theory of working in PAR spiral very helpful where each step involves assumptions, experimentation, reflection and revised assumption -Starting each process with assumption helped us in moving forward with the mapping exercises since three members from our team are not in Nurtingen - Helped us in being creative in imagining what the people want. -Information about nurtingen was available online as well. Things that were difficult -Online research / working in group online was tiring. Not meeting in person with groups members is different and is taking more time during discussions. -Communicating and talking to people in person and over phone/ Internet is very different
